Benefits of DGTA Membership
DGTA is an accredited NGO at the United Nations, to the Subcommittee on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. We have been a 501(c)(3) non-profit advocacy group for the international Dangerous Goods Training community for 18 years. Through your membership in DGTA, you can:
- Be part of the DGTA delegation to the UN Subcommittee meetings (if you are not a director, contact the DGTA Chair or Vice Chair to put your name on the list of prospective delegates.)
- Have access to and participate in the UN Informal Working Group on Lithium Battery Classification.
- Advance issues and initiatives for regulatory changes (or new rules) and go into the UN Model Regulations (Orange Book).
- Receive the DGTA newsletter several times a year spotlighting issues of interest to DG trainers.
- Gain access to certification prep classes, as they’re offered on various DG topics (i.e. CDGP exam [we do not offer the exam, that’s all through IHMM]).
- Enjoy networking opportunities with other DG trainers from around the world at conferences or through our website.
- Get discounted (or free) attendance at DG update seminars/webinars as they are offered.
- Gain recognition as a professional DG trainer — as a member you subscribe to DGTA’s code of ethics.
- Gain recognition using the DGTA Member logo on your business card or company materials (voting memberships are issued to individuals, not companies).
- Volunteer to serve on the DGTA Board of Directors.
- Attend the annual meeting (usually held in connection with an industry conference or online in a web-meeting format.)
We all know that Dangerous Goods training in transportation is a very niche profession. When you use the word “HazMat” or “Dangerous Goods,” people often think of emergency response or waste issues. While many DGTA trainers are involved in those areas, our organization provides a home for DG professionals focused on DG compliance in Transportation. Whether it’s shipments of lithium batteries or vital medical treatments, the importance of professional DG training cannot be overstated.
We welcome your participation. There are no minimum experience requirements, everyone who provides DG training services either for a company as a corporate trainer or as an independent trainer or consultant is welcome!
